Ingredients for honey butter chicken wings

  • Chicken wings: This recipe makes 12 chicken wings.
  • Butter: I used unsalted butter from President as it has a nice, creamy texture. You can use salted butter as well but be sure to lessen the amount of salt when seasoning the chicken wings.
  • Honey: You can adjust the sweetness by adding more or less honey to suit your preferences.
  • Garlic: I stir-fried the minced garlic with some oil until golden-brown crisp to give an additional crunchy texture. It gives the dish extra savoury goodness as well!
  • Salt and pepper: For seasoning the chicken wings.
  • Spring onions (optional): These enhance the flavours by complementing the savoury aspects of the wings.
  • Sesame seeds (optional): For garnishing.

Success tips for making air fryer honey butter chicken wings

Pat dry chicken wings.

Ensure the chicken wings are dry before seasoning and cooking them in the air fryer. Patting them with paper towels helps achieve a crispy exterior.

Preheat the air fryer.

Preheating the air fryer for a few minutes can help achieve a better sear and cook the chicken wings more evenly.

Avoid overcrowding the air fryer.

Place the chicken in a single layer in the air fryer basket. Overcrowding can lead to uneven cooking and less crispiness. If your air fryer can’t hold all chicken wings, cook them in batches.

Flip the chicken wings halfway.

For even cooking, flip the chicken halfway through the cooking time.

Control the heat when cooking.

When cooking the chicken wings with the honey butter sauce, cook over medium heat to ensure it cooks through without burning the honey glaze.

Adjust sweetness.

Adjust the amount of honey in the recipe to create a level of sweetness that suits your taste.

What cooking methods can I use to make honey butter chicken wings?

You can bake, fry, or air fry the wings. Baking is a healthier option, while frying gives a crispy texture. Air frying is a quick and efficient method that also yields crispy results.

Can I make the honey butter sauce in advance?

Yes, you can prepare the sauce ahead of time! Store it in an airtight container in the refrigerator and reheat it in a frying pan before tossing it with the cooked wings.

How to achieve crispy wings?

Ensure the wings are dry before cooking, use a high cooking temperature, and avoid overcrowding the cooking surface. If baking, consider using a wire rack to allow air circulation.

What to serve with the chicken wings?

These wings pair well with sides like coleslaw, potato wedges, or a fresh salad. They also make a great appetiser for parties or game days.

How to store leftovers?

Store any leftover wings in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 3-4 days. Reheat in the oven or air fryer to maintain crispiness.

Offering an aromatic blend of sweet, savoury, and a buttery garlic flavour, these honey butter chicken wings are an irresistible choice for any gathering or a cosy night in. Using just simple ingredients, they are easy to make, and are ready to serve in half an hour!
