Ingredients for Shin ramen upgrade


  • Shin ramen: You’ll need 1 pack of Shin ramen including the noodles, dried vegetables pack, and Shin seasoning.
  • Chilli oil: Adds a fiery, savoury depth of flavour to the broth. Adjust the amount based on your heat tolerance.
  • Protein: I chose well-marbled hotpot beef, tofu, and sausages for quick-cooking. Make a runny egg at the end for that luxurious, satisfying bite!
  • Veggies: I added bok choy to add a crisp, leafy bite. It soaks up the spicy broth, adding a punch of heat as you take a bite. You can choose other types of veggies, such as mushrooms, or bean sprouts for extra crunch and chew.
  • Spring onions: For garnish.
  • Water

How to make Shin ramen upgrade


  1. Preparation: Slice the sausages and soft tofu into even pieces. Set aside.  
  2. Cook ramen: Heat a pot over medium-high heat. Add in chilli oil, sausages, and soft tofu. Pour in water, and bring to a boil. Add in ramen noodles, seasonings from the package, veggies, and beef. Cover with a lid and cook for 1-2 minutes until the noodles begin to break apart.
  3. Make a runny egg: Crack an egg in the centre, cover with a lid, and cook for another 30 seconds. Finish with a sprinkle of chopped spring onions.
  4. Serve: Enjoy immediately while it’s hot.

Success tips on making Shin ramen upgrade


Timing is key.

It is important to cook everything together within 4-5 minutes before the ramen noodles begin to soften and become mushy. To ensure everything cooks evenly, cover the pot with a lid. Crack in an egg when the noodles are half cooked to make a runny egg, while the noodles maintain chewy.

Serve immediately.

What type of beef should I use?


It’s recommended to use hotpot fatty beef that is well-marbled as it has enough fat that makes it tender and melts in your mouth after cooking. Also, hotpot beef can be cooked instantly so it’s perfect to pair with instant Shin ramen!

  • 1 pack Shin ramen
  • 120 g beef
  • 1 handful of vegetables bok choy
  • 2 tbsp chilli oil adjust based on your heat tolerance
  • 3 honey sausages
  • 1 pack tofu (228g)
  • 500 ml water
